FHPRD Ends Reign

With the first day of April came the end of the decade-long management of Finn Hill parks by elected commissioners using funding generated by a tax local residents voted to place upon themselves. The Finn Hill Park and Recreation District was approved on November 20, 2002 following passage of ballot Proposition No. 1. The proposition was spurred by King County funding shortfalls that closed O.O. Denny Park in 2001 for lack of maintenance. Register for Map Your Neighborhood Training on Feb. 27

The  Kirkland Office of Emergency Management will offer a “train the facilitator” class for Map Your Neighborhood (MYN). After personal preparedness, MYN is the next step in ensuring that Kirkland is a resilient community in the event of a disaster. This class will prepare community members to establish the MYN program in their neighborhoods, explaining the process from A to Z, and offering all the materials and support needed. The training will occur on Wednesday, February 27 from 7-9 PM at Fire Station 26 located at 9930 124th Ave.NE in Kirkland.

UPDATE: *********The latest news! Mandy was found by local residents!  Read the news. ********** The search for a lost black flat coated retriever continues on Finn Hill. Unless you’ve been locked away with the flu, you’ve most likely seen all the signs posted with a picture of the 11-year-old Mandy. While signs are routinely posted for lost dogs and cats, this is an especially sad story because it is the latest in a series of very trying circumstances for the dog’s owner. Salmon Makes a Splash at O.O. Denny

For those of you wondering if efforts to restore O.O. Denny Creek to encourage the return of salmon has spawned any results, note this sighting passed along by area resident Renee LeBlanc. LeBlanc had been out for a walk with her children in O.O.
