Attend meeting on Holmes Point tree ordinance

Dear Finn Hill Neighbor: The Super Bowl’s over and so is the inauguration…so how about turning your attention to protecting Finn Hill’s tree canopy? There’s a big opportunity to let the City of Kirkland know that you value a healthy tree canopy this Thursday evening, February 9.  At 7pm, the Planning Commission will convene the first of two study sessions on the Holmes Point Overlay ordinance, a special land use regulation that attempts to preserve trees on the slopes and in the ravines of the Holmes Point area west of Juanita Drive. Attending the Planning Commission meeting is a great way to learn about the existing Holmes Point Overlay ordinance because the Planning Department staff will focus on explaining how it works today. The meeting also allows you to share your concerns with the commissioners about new development in the neighborhood and about the shortcomings of the ordinance. And although the current Holmes Point ordinance doesn’t cover all of Finn Hill, Finn Hill residents can tell the City whether they would like to expand its footprint. We hope you’ll make time for this important meeting and also stay engaged in the coming month or two as we work with the City on improvements to the ordinance. UPDATE:  The meeting is now on the City of Kirkland’s video archive . Want some background information? Click to see a Finn Hill Neighborhood...

Attend Planning Meeting Thursday Jan 12

Dear Finn Hill neighbors, UPDATE The Planning Department has just posted its report to the Planning Commission on zoning issues that will be discussed Thursday evening at City Hall. You can read the report here – and read (or reread) my earlier note, below, about the meeting and the neighborhood plan process. It would be great to hear any reactions you have to the staff memo. I and other FHNA board members will do our best to wade through it and we’ll you email with our observations in the next day or two. Again, we hope to see you at the Planning Commission on Thursday! Happy New Year, everyone. It’s beginning with a bang. I’m writing to update you on the Finn Hill neighborhood plan and to urge your attendance at an important Planning Commission meeting this Thursday evening – 7pm on January 12.  The Planning Commissioners and the Planning Department will discuss rezoning several portions of Finn Hill – the neighborhood’s two commercial areas, residential areas around Carl Sandburg Elementary, a parcel along Simonds Road, and several pockets of higher density zoning in the southern end of the hill. The meeting will be held at the Kirkland City Hall Council Chambers, 123 Fifth Avenue. See meeting details below. The Planning  commission meeting packet regarding the Finn Hill Neighborhood Plan is posted to the City web page. Worried about more development and more traffic? Eager...
